The Subtle Differences Between Twitter and Facebook

Twitter is not Facebook

Social media made news a conversation because people can communicate to reporters online. It is a public medium where writers can publish themselves and impress their future employers. When readers are eating breakfast, they can read the news and comment on it over fried eggs. However, it takes readers longer to read media online.

Ways to combat reader restlessness is to:

  • create quotes using sources
  • use bullet points to create lists
  • use the active voice in all the blogs, except in certain cases

Facebook as a Medium

Facebook is a popular way to communicate with other people so it is important to experiment with source content. Post photographs, videos, and text messages online to figure out the best way to tell stories. However, if you are solely after "like," remember that photographs and videos do better than texts online.

Tweeting vs Posting

There is a cliché saying that is best applied to Facebook which is
"Less is More"
Live by this model on Facebook. Facebook needs to be updated two to five times a week and it needs to have a strong profile photograph on both the Facebook profile and page. Do not link Twitter and Facebook because people hate having a lot of posts on Facebook because it feels like spam. Twitter needs to be updated five to six times a day because what would feel like spam on Facebook will sometimes make the best tweets.

Twitter is Needed by Journalists

All Journalists needs to have a Twitter account. They also need to realize that it is important not to tip off the competition using Twitter but in order to build interest in a story. It is also important to like or comment on comments quickly as possible because you need to acknowledge your views. If you do not then you will lose them. Also remember this is an interactive media meant to engage with the audience, so try posting questions to the audience. Furthermore, any journalist who want to gain a large audience should post or tweet out their messages around noon.
