An unofficial basketball game with two teams made up of volunteers played a charity game to advance cancer research.

Some of the volunteer basketball players were well known locally such as St. John's City councillors-at-large Debbie Hanlon and Maggie Burton.

The home team wore blue and green sports jerseys and the guest team wore orange jerseys. When asked for a team name, the guest team had multiple ideas. One of the names the guest team suggested was "team two."

The home team said that their team name was "team rainbow."

game. Sammy, the Seahawk's mascot, posed with the volunteer basketball players.

The guest team won the game 89 to 84, but both teams succeed by helping raise money for the Memorial University (MUN) Terry Fox Committee.

The MUN Terry Fox Committee also contributes to the foundation by organizing fundraisers such as the annual Terry Fox MUN basketball fundraiser. On October 10, 2019, they will be holding their 3rd yearly game at 6:30 p.m. for the Terry Fox Foundation in the MUN Physical Education's gym (PE-2000).

Andrew Gillet kept the game's score and Sammy, the Seahawk's mascot, made an appearance to boost team morale.

Registration desk volunteers handed out free tickets to registered Quidi Vidi runners for an annual charity basketball game at Memorial University (MUN).

According to the @MUN_Students twitter account, tickets cost $5.00 for adults and children under 12 had free admission. Anyone attending the game could buy tickets at the door from Faisal Abdullah who volunteered with the Terry Fox Foundation and was helping with the fundraiser.

Faisal Abdullah is a volunteer with the Terry Fox Foundation. He ran the
ticket table at the door and gave out free Terry Fox merchandise.

"Everybody has fun at the games for a great charity for the MUN community," Dawn Corbett, MUN manager for the Terry Fox Run, said.

During a break in the game, Kurt Leach, the provincial manager of the Terry Fox Run thanked everyone for supporting the work that they do.

"Next year will be the 40th annual Terry Fox Run," Leach said. "So, mark your calendars for September the 20th."
