The City of St. John’s called at state of emergency at 11:00, Friday morning. At 6:00 p.m. plows were on stand-by throughout the city. The drivers will go back to snow clearing when visibility is better.

Visibility is so bad, people are being asked to stay off the roads. Across the City, some homes are experiencing power loss.

The public libraries have announced they also will be closed Saturday because of the blizzard.

Outside the wind groans and snow blows pass the window. The Jan. 17, 2020, snowstorm has taken the island by storm.

The day after the blizzard we dug our way out.
The City is still in a state of emergency.

The following day, the N.L. province called in the Canadian armed forces for military assistance to help with the recovery. January 19 the troops arrived.

The state of emergency will continue into Monday, January 20.

The effects of the storm have been felt in St. John's as people try to dig themselves out of their homes and wait for stores to open.

January 21 the City of St. John’s temporary lifted the ban Tuesday between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. for stores to open and the citizens to purchase enough provisions to last 48 hours. The state of emergency remains for a fifth day, what a way to start the decade!

The state of emergency will be in effect on Wednesday with some exceptions.

Newfoundlanders have been living in a state of emergency since Wednesday, January 17. The City’s Mayor, Danny Breen, announced they plan to lift all restrictions at 6 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, assuming another snow storm does not strike.

Saturday at 6 a.m. the state of emergency was indeed lifted; although, the City is still trying to clear the snow from the streets.

Cul de sac awaiting clearing. There is only room
for one way traffic and no side walk.

Everyone who is sharing the roads, walk and drive safely. The state of emergency is lifted, but the snow could still cause problems for people driving or walking.
