1. Take eight slices of bread and slice diagonally.

2. Cut the chopped ham into small flat pieces.

3. Grease a casserole pan to prevent sticking.

4. Mix butter and minced garlic in a bowl.

5. Use this mixture to butter both sides of the bread slices.

6. Use the buttered bread slices to line the bottom of the casserole pan.

7. Place ham slices on top of the bread slices in the casserole dish.

8. Cover the ham with another layer of buttered bread slices.

9. Break four eggs in a bowl and mix with milk.

10. Stir in a pinch of salt and pepper.

11. Preheat the oven to 350 ºF.

12. Gradually, pour the egg mixture evenly over the entire top layer of bread slices.

13. Press down, with your hands, the top layer of bread so the liquid gets into all the bread slices.

14. Let the dish rest for five minutes. Add grated cheddar over the top of the bread. Cheese lovers can add a little more.

15. Put it in the preheated oven for 35 minutes.

16. Remove and it will feed four.

Tip: Pack a piece for lunch or serve it up for supper with a salad or soup.
