Bradley Douglas and a friend saw a painting on
Instagram and decided to go to the painter's art gallery show.
"Not many
people paint anything about Labrador," Douglas, a Labradorian, said.
Adam Young, from Young Studios, had a pop-up show on the second floor of the Sandman Signature Hotel. The show was held on Nov. 9, 10 a.m.
to 6 p.m. and on Nov. 10, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Bonavista Room in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador (N.L.).
"I get a lot of love in St. John's," Young
said.
Likewise, Young has a lot of love for N.L.
"[I]… fell in love with Newfoundland, in love
with rural Newfoundland," Young added.
According to Young, his favourite painting at the show
was The Rock that he had painted five years ago. That painting put
him "on the map."
"It reflects a rural scene, but… it also mirrors
the… [N.L.] provincial flag," Young said.
According to Young's author biography on his 2020
calendars, Young was born in Halifax, N.S., raised in Moncton, N.B. and studied
fine arts. He began his artistic career as a freelance illustrator. Young first
visited N.L. in 2008 and later moved to Fogo Island where he had painted many N.L.
landscapes.
"I use to be a figurative painter, so
predominately people, but I moved into landscape art… when I moved to
Newfoundland," Young said.
For anyone who missed the pop-up show, never fear.
According to Young, he tries to do an art gallery show
in St. John's, N.L. at least once a year.
